Today is a GIFT from God. Whether you unwrap it slowly or with haste, you should expect something GOOD inside!
Just a little something the Lord whispered to me this morning as I spent time with Him… I thought it was totally worth sharing!
If we really stop to think about it, even for a moment, we’ll find such truth here. I can’t count how many times I’ve begun my devotional time with the Lord with the words “Thank you Papa, for the gift of this day….. ” but this morning He enlightened me to the fact that a gift is a good thing! How many times are we given a finely wrapped present (or even wrapped in recycled paper bags or newspaper) and there hasn’t been either a hint or an explosion of joyful anticipation? Of course some may add “Well, that depends greatly on who the gift is from…”, and rightly so. Let’s assume, for the sake of argument, that the gift is from the most loving, thoughtful, wealthy and generous person we know. Someone who knows us intimately & with whom we’ve shared our deepest needs & desires. There would be a great deal of eagerness to see what was inside!
I am convinced that if we open each new day as the gift that it actually is, with joyful anticipation as opposed to apathy or resignation, that we will find it holds glorious hidden treasures. If even the most cynically minded would take a moment to realize that our days are numbered – no one is promised tomorrow – how much more would we embrace & appreciate today?
As for me, I have made a decision that for the next 40 days (if they are given), I will intentionally look forward to, in joyful expectation, unwrapping each one. Hopefully it will become a life-long habit. A purposeful attitude which will become part of my character. James 1:22 teaches us we are to be “doers of the Word, and not hearers only…” – and the Word says to “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say, Rejoice!” (Phil 4:4)
